House As Office / Office As Home
(An excerpt from an article by Alexander
Wong written for
Singapore's 'iSh' Magazine - issue no. 2.4 July 2001 pg. 87 to 89)
"So, what is the alternative
to that? Is the existence of a 'workplace' based on the mere concept
of a widely accepted notion that the post-modern proletariat prefers
to 'go to work' as his daily ritual as well as a kind of therapeutic
process for the mind and soul? Could we actually all stay home in
the forever-expanding suburbs to live and work in an idyllic atmosphere
free of anxiety or neurosis? Perhaps what is much needed in the
future, or perhaps what is much needed right now, is for the workplace
to be a place like home¡K. |
